AR-DV1 Loading Frequencies From Squawker PC & Squawker Online

Summary: How to get Squawker frequencies into an AR-DV1, and what isn’t supported.

At a Glance

  • Squawker PC’s Connect panel and Scanner Programmer don’t support the AR-DV1. There’s no live logging or direct programming.
  • Squawker PC has no AR-DV1 export and neither does Squawker Online. The “Radioscan” export is for AOR’s Radioscan programming software and isn’t designed for the AR-DV series, so don’t rely on it here.
  • The AR-DV1 backs up its memories to CSV files on the SD card and restores them from CSV, and AOR’s manual notes a PC makes bulk work easier. The manual doesn’t document the column layout of those files, so the route below relies on you working out the format from a backup.

A Practical Route

  1. Back up first. Store a few test channels on the receiver, then use [F] > SD key > BACKUP to write MEMCH.CSV (and SYSTEM.CSV) to the SD card. Keep a copy of the whole card contents on your PC.
  2. Open MEMCH.CSV in a spreadsheet. The columns you see (frequency, mode, step, title, protect and so on) are the layout the receiver expects.
  3. In Squawker choose your data and use a CSV or Excel export (see Exporting to Files – What Each Format Does and The Export Panel). Squawker PC can export the frequencies and names.
  4. Copy the frequencies, modes and names into the template, keeping the same columns and number formatting as the original.
  5. Save it as .csv (any file name prefix, the extension must be .csv), put it on the SD card and restore it with [F] > SD key > LIST > select the file > [ENT].

This is untested by us, so try a small file first; if the layout is wrong the receiver shows an error and stops restoring. Restoring overwrites what’s stored, so keep your backups.

Things to Check

  • Limits: 2,000 channels (40 banks of 50), titles of 12 characters, so shorten the names.
  • Modes: use AM for airband (8.33 kHz step), NFM/FM for most other voice, and use digital modes only where you know the system.
  • Range: 100 kHz-1.3 GHz.
  • Steps: the receiver has no auto step, so channels may need step adjust: see AR-DV1 Tuning: Steps, IF Bandwidth & Step Adjust.
