DJ-X100E FM Radio Mode

Summary: How to listen to broadcast FM radio on the DJ-X100E, and how to switch back to receiving.

What It Is

FM Radio mode turns the DJ-X100E into a simple 76-108 MHz FM broadcast radio. The squelch is open, scanning and other functions are disabled, and FM stations can’t be stored in memory. The mode and step are fixed at WFM, 100 kHz.

Turning It On

  • Hold [MODE], or
  • Enter a frequency between 76 and 108 MHz in VFO mode.

The radio icon appears. Turn the dial to tune (only 76-108 MHz shows), or key the frequency in. The volume for FM radio is adjusted separately (33 levels, default 0) with the ring while the RADIO icon is shown.

Receiving Communications While Listening

Press [MODE], [STEP], [V/M] or [SCAN] briefly to return to normal receiving while keeping the radio playing, or key in a non-broadcast frequency. Hold [MODE] in FM radio mode to switch FM radio off.

Set mode, Audio, Vol Reduction decides what the FM radio does when a communication is received (OFF, Low 60%, Medium 40%, High 20% or Mute); the volume returns about 3 seconds after the signal ends.

Cautions

  • There’s no squelch in FM radio mode, so you hear a buzz between stations. If you switch to normal mode while noise is playing the buzz can remain: turn FM radio off to mute it.
  • Setting the FM radio volume to zero silences it, but the circuit keeps running and uses about 20% more battery. Turn FM radio off if you don’t need it.
  • If you hear a strange noise even with the squelch closed, check whether the radio icon is on.
