DJ-X100E Memory Channels, Banks & Names

Summary: How the DJ-X100E stores its 999 memory channels, banks and names, and how to register and delete them.

How Memory Works

  • 999 channels (001-999); 000 is the priority channel and can’t be used as a normal channel. FM radio stations can’t be stored.
  • 26 banks (A-Z): memory channels are linked to banks by number, so there’s no bank size limit. One channel can be in several banks and still counts once (145.000 MHz in banks A, D and Z uses one of the 999).
  • Nothing is stored at first, and there is no write protection: changes are saved immediately.
  • Stored data: channel number, frequency, mode, step, communication settings, offset step, longitude and latitude, bank(s) and name.

Alinco recommends the free PC editing software for anything more than a few channels (see DJ-X100E PC Software, USB & Reset).

Registering a Channel

  1. Set the frequency, mode and step in VFO mode.
  2. Press [FUNC] then [V/M] to open the WRITE screen (values are copied from the VFO).
  3. Choose the Memory number (001-999; the next unused number is offered) and edit the Frequency, Mode, Step, Communication settings, Offset step, Longitude and Latitude, Bank assignment and Memory name.
  4. Choose Write and Yes.

Nothing is saved until you choose Write, and stepping back out loses your edits, so write early and edit the rest with the Edit function in Memory mode (press [V/M], then [FUNC], then [V/M] for EDIT).

Banks

On the registration screen choose Bank Assignment, pick a bank, and set ON; repeat for others. Change Bank Name on the bank screen renames it (for example LAX and LHR).

Names

Memory names can be up to 28 characters (14 full-width). Choose “Memory Name (Unset)” on the edit screen. Keys: [MODE] chooses the character type, [STEP] switches upper and lower case, turn the dial for characters, [SCAN] moves the cursor right, [SKIP] left, and after [SCAN] use [V/M] to delete. Finish with [SET], then Write. Characters include ASCII letters, numbers and symbols (and Japanese characters); accented letters such as umlauts and cedillas aren’t supported.

Longitude and Latitude

Enter them in decimal degrees (press [MODE] for N/S and E/W), or choose Obtain from GPS to use your current position. Select “Settings” on the LOCATE screen and confirm Yes, otherwise the values are lost. They’re used by the GPS Memory Scan and the distance display (0.01 to 999.99 km).

Deleting a Channel

In Memory mode press [FUNC] then [V/M] for EDIT, choose Memory Number, pick the channel, and confirm Yes on the delete prompts (twice).

Memory Mode Types

Hold [V/M] in Memory mode to choose All Memory, Bank, Bank Link or GPS Memory; hold [SET] to jump to VFO mode with that channel’s data. See DJ-X100E Memory Scans & GPS Memory.
