DJ-X100E Keys, Dial, Ring & Display

Summary: What each control on the DJ-X100E does and what the display icons mean.

Controls

• Dial – changes the frequency, memory channel and settings (the selector).
• Ring – the volume (default). The functions of the dial and ring can be swapped or changed in Set mode.
• Display – a colour TFT. Keyboard – direct frequency entry and settings.
• Antenna connector (SMA-J) – the supplied whip or another antenna tuned to the band.
• Speaker and a built-in GPS antenna at the top (keep the top facing the sky).
• [MONI] ([SQL]), [FUNC] ([LOCK]), [POWER] on the side; earphone terminal (3.5 mm mono or stereo plug; the sound is in both ears but not stereo) and USB port (Type-C, 5 V/1.5 A).

Key Operations

“Press” is a short firm press; “long press” is about 1 second. Holding [FUNC] too long locks the keys, so hold again to unlock.

• [1]-[9] – Quick Recall (short press recalls a registered state; long press registers; [FUNC] then a number is used to register). [0] long – list of Quick Recalls.
• [SKIP (.)] – decimal point when typing; skip on/off; timer skip; skip edit after [FUNC].
• [SET] – enters Set mode and confirms; long press copies the current memory to the VFO; after [FUNC] it toggles the frequency counter.
• [SCAN] – starts and stops a scan; long press selects the scan type; after [FUNC] enters the Program Scan list.
• [V/M] – VFO or Memory mode; long press selects the memory mode type (from Memory mode); after [FUNC] memory write (VFO) or memory edit (memory mode).
• [STEP] – the frequency step; long press turns the offset step on and off; after [FUNC] changes the frequency in MHz steps.
• [MODE] – the receive mode; long press turns FM radio on and off; after [FUNC] the communication settings (CONFIG).
• [MONI] – monitor; after [FUNC] the squelch level.
• [FUNC] – short press enters FUNC status (icon lit), long press locks the keys, and (if enabled) a further press toggles the manual backlight.
• [POWER] – hold for about 1 second on or off.
• Dial: changes frequency; with FUNC lit, changes 10 times the step (VFO) or 10 channels (Memory mode).

In Set mode the number keys act as a cross key: 2 up, 4 left, 6 right, 8 down, 3 and 9 page up and down, 5 confirm, 7 cancel, 1 exit; [SET] confirms and [MONI] goes back.

Display Icons

• Operation mode (left of the frequency is the receive mode, right is the step), and the FUNC icon (which disappears after 5 seconds by default)
• GPS / FIX (see DJ-X100E GPS, Position Display, AIS & Messages), FM radio icon, auto power off (APO), key lock, battery
• Memory name, frequency, memory channel/bank/scan number
• Skip and timer skip, encrypted signal detected or data communication icon, priority scan, offset step
• S-meter and the BUSY icons; the shift, attenuator and code information line (for example “ATT 20”, “SHIFT-“, DCR codes)

The display can also show the distance and direction to a station in km (eight directions) when position data is available.
