DJ-X100E Overview, Features & Accessories

Summary: A tour of the Alinco DJ-X100E digital multi-mode handheld receiver: what it covers and decodes, what’s in the box and its main features.

What the DJ-X100E Is

The DJ-X100E is a compact digital multi-mode receiver for the 30 to 470 MHz VHF/UHF range (plus 76-108 MHz FM broadcast in WFM only). The “E” is the European version (CE marked); the “T” is the US FCC version, which can’t receive cellular frequencies and has its analogue voice descrambler disabled. It receives analogue voice, several digital voice formats and data modes, has a built-in GPS/GNSS receiver, and is IP67 dust and waterproof (only with the MIC-SP jack cover tightly closed).

What It Receives

  • Analogue: FM, NFM, AM, NAM and WFM (FM radio).
  • Digital voice: DCR, DMR, NXDN, dPMR, D-STAR and C4FM (DN). D-STAR is receive voice only.
  • Data: AIS (ship positions), ACARS (aircraft messages), and 12 kHz IF outputs (wide and narrow) for use with third-party receiver software.
  • Tones and codes: CTCSS and DCS for analogue, and digital codes (colour code, code squelch, DG-ID, user code, group code and others) for the digital modes.

Main Features

  • 999 memory channels, 50 program scan pairs, 26 banks (A-Z), and names up to 28 characters. Memory channel 000 is the priority channel.
  • GPS Memory Scan: memory channels can hold a longitude and latitude, so the receiver scans only the channels within a set distance of where you are, and searches again as you move.
  • Scans: All, MHz, Program, Link, Priority and Shift scans, with normal and time skips.
  • Automatic signalling analysis: it detects CTCSS/DCS tones, D-STAR call signs (CS), C4FM DG-ID and DCR/NXDN user codes for you.
  • Quick Recall: store nine complete receive states on the number keys.
  • F-COUNT frequency counter (50-470 MHz).
  • FM radio mode for broadcast stations.
  • GPS, position display and sky view, and display of position data from AIS and digital signals.
  • USB Type-C charging and PC connection, an SMA antenna connector, a large speaker and stereo earphone jack (mono audio).
  • A colour TFT display with customisable colours, a membrane keyboard with keys for frequency entry, mode and step.
  • A Li-ion battery (EBP-114A), or an optional case for three AA cells, or USB power.
