IC-R30 Recording & Playback

Summary: How to record received audio to the IC-R30’s microSD card, play it back, manage the files and copy them to a PC.

Before You Start

Insert a microSD card (see IC-R30 Getting Started: Accessories, microSD Card & First Steps). Once a recording starts it continues even if you turn the receiver off and on again, until you stop it. Don’t remove the card, the battery pack or the power while it’s being accessed.

Recording

  • Start: push [REC] (“Recording started.”). The record icon shows; a paused-recording icon shows while paused. Or use MENU, RX Recorder, <<REC Start>> or the Quick Menu.
  • Stop: push [REC] again and confirm YES.
  • With Dualwatch on, the bands recorded depend on REC Operation; with a single band display only the displayed band is recorded.
  • A recording that reaches 2 GB continues in a new file.
  • By default recording pauses while the squelch is closed.

Recorder Settings (MENU, RX Recorder, Recorder Set)

  • RX REC Condition (Squelch Auto): Always, or Squelch Auto (records while the squelch is open plus 2 seconds).
  • File Split (ON): with Squelch Auto a new file starts at events such as the squelch closing for 2 seconds, changing mode, memory channel or frequency by more than 5 kHz (200 kHz in WFM), starting a scan, returning from a priority channel, or a digital talk-end code. OFF keeps one file until it passes 2 GB.
  • REC Operation (A/B Link): A/B Link records both bands together; A/B Separate records the MAIN band only.
  • Player Set, Skip Time (10 s): fast forward and rewind step.

Files

WAV files in date folders yyyymmdd, named like 20180315_120000A (“A” is the A band; “B” for B), in the card’s Voice folder. You can play a file while recording.

Playing Back

  1. MENU, RX Recorder, Play Files, choose the folder then the file. The VOICE PLAYER starts.
  2. [ENTER] pauses and resumes; D-pad up or down selects the previous or next file. [CLEAR] stops.
  3. Push [QUICK] in the file list to delete files or folders, show file or folder information, or change what’s displayed.

Deleted audio can’t be recovered. Check free space and recording time with MENU, SD Card, SD Card Info.

Playing on a PC

Use SD Card Mode and open IC-R30 > Voice; some players may not play the files, and frequency and date information isn’t shown on the PC. See IC-R30 microSD Card: Backup, CSV Import/Export & SD Card Mode.
