IC-R15 FM Radio Mode

Summary: How to listen to broadcast FM radio on the IC-R15, use its 500-station FM Radio memory and manage the stations.

FM Radio Basics

The IC-R15 can receive FM broadcast radio, 76.0-108.0 MHz on the European version (88.0-108.0 MHz on the USA version). It works on the A band only, so it can be used alongside Dualwatch. For radio-only listening choose a single band display or Simple Mode, FM Radio.

  • Turn on: push [QUICK] and choose <<FM Radio Mode>> (“FM RADIO” shows). Turn off: QUICK, <<Exit FM Radio Mode>>.
  • Tuning or Memory: push [MR] to toggle between Tuning mode and FM Radio Memory mode. Rotate [DIAL] to pick a frequency or channel.
  • Search: in Tuning mode hold D-pad down or up to search for a station (push again or [CLEAR] to cancel).
  • Attenuator: QUICK, FM Radio ATT, ON (“ATT” shows).
  • Squelch: OPEN, AUTO or LEVEL 1 to 3. Monitor works the same as elsewhere.
  • Select group: in Memory mode, QUICK, Select Group. SKIP Select Mode (QUICK) lets you set or clear skips by rotating [DIAL] and pushing [SKIP].

FM Radio Memory

There are 26 groups (A-Z) of up to 50 stations each, up to 500 in total. Some area stations are pre-loaded; yours may differ from the manual.

Save a frequency: hold [MR] for 1 second, choose Write to New CH or Write to Selected CH, ENT, YES.

Add: MENU, MEMORY, FM Radio Memory, choose a group, QUICK, Add; set NAME (16 characters), FREQUENCY and SKIP (OFF or SKIP; a skipped channel isn’t shown in the memory mode), then <<Add Write>> and YES. Change the GROUP if needed. Edit (QUICK, Edit, then <<Overwrite>>), Delete and Move (to reorder; <<Move End>> puts it last) are all in the QUICK menu. To rename a group choose Edit Name at the group list.

The FM Radio memory can also be imported and exported as a CSV file (see IC-R15 microSD Card: Backup, CSV Import/Export & SD Card Mode).
