TRX-2E Legal, Safety, Warranty & Support

Summary: The important legal, safety, compliance and warranty information from the Whistler TRX-2E guide, in plain English, with the UK support contacts.

Scanning Legally

The guide says it is illegal to listen to some transmissions your scanner can receive, and asks you to consult your local licensing conditions. Don’t open the case to modify the scanner to pick up transmissions that are illegal to monitor; doing so could subject you to legal penalties. Whistler encourages responsible, legal use. (This section can’t tell you what the law is where you live; check it.)

In some areas mobile use of a scanner is unlawful or needs a permit, and it is illegal in many places to interfere with public safety officials by going to an incident without authorisation. Changes or modifications not approved by the party responsible for compliance could void your authority to operate the equipment.

Safety

  • Antennas: outdoor antennas must be grounded, and you should never touch an antenna, mast or cable that has contacted a power line (see TRX-2E Setup: Antenna, Headphones & Speakers).
  • Magnets: the remote head magnets are powerful (see TRX-2E Remote Head, Desktop & Mobile Installation).
  • Vehicle installation: don’t mount it where air bags deploy; use the in-line 3A slow-blow fuse; disconnect the battery before wiring.
  • Headphones: keep volume moderate and don’t use them while driving.

Handling

Keep the scanner dry (wipe it dry if wet), use and store it in normal temperatures, handle it carefully, keep it away from dust and dirt, and wipe it with a damp cloth. Tampering with the internals can cause malfunction, may invalidate the warranty and could void your authority to operate.

Warranty

The product is warranted to the original purchaser for one year from purchase against defects in materials and workmanship, when bought from an authorised Whistler retailer. It’s void if the unit is abused, misused, modified or improperly installed, or if the housing or serial numbers are removed. Whistler is not liable for consequential damage. Warranty service needs dated proof of purchase and the unit’s serial number, and the guide advises checking with your retailer for their specific returns procedure.
