TRX-2E Alert LED Settings

Summary: How to customise the TRX-2E’s Alert LED colours and flash patterns for individual objects, with the guide’s example settings.

What You Can Do

The Alert LED can show unique colours and flash patterns when transmissions arrive on important talkgroups or channels. In EZ Scan you can group objects (the guide’s example is amateur repeaters), set their colour and even give VHF and UHF different alert tones. From the keypad you edit one object at a time.

Editing From the Keypad

  1. Press MENU, choose Browse Objects, pick a scanlist and an object, and press MENU for the object options.
  2. Scroll to Flash Pattern and press right. Eight characters are shown (for example 55555555). Set each to 0-9 or A-F.
  3. Press SEL to accept the flash rate. The pattern is read from left to right.

Both the flash pattern and the colours are in hexadecimal. For example, with pattern 3B3B3B3B the guide says “3” is off/off/on/on and “B” is on/off/on/on, so the LED alternates between those two states. (The chart listing every code is a picture in the guide.)

The Settings Behind an Effect

Each object has Flash Pattern, On Time, Off Time, LED Enable, LED Flash, Colour Count and up to four colours. On/Off Times are in 10 ms steps (50 = 0.5 seconds). Colours are hex red-green-blue values, for example FF0000 red, 0000FF blue, FFFF00 yellow, FFFFFF white and 00FF00 green.

The Guide’s Examples

  • Solid single colour – LED Enable ticked, LED Flash unticked, Colour Count 1, Colour 1 FF0000 (red).
  • Slow flash, single colour – pattern 55555555, On 50, Off 50, LED Flash ticked, one colour (red). One cycle per second.
  • Slow flash, two colours – as above with two colours, red and blue, alternating.
  • Highway Department 1 (rapid yellow strobe) – A8A8A8A8, On 5, Off 9, one colour FFFF00.
  • Highway Department 2 (rapid yellow and white) – the same with FFFF00 and FFFFFF.
  • Police Department 1 (rapid blue pulsing) – A8A8A8A8, On 5, Off 9, one colour 0000FF.
  • Police Department 2 (continuous blue strobe) – AAAAAAAA, On 5, Off 9, 0000FF.
  • Police Department 3 (alternating blue/red) – AAAAAAAA, On 5, Off 9, 0000FF and FF0000.
  • Fire/EMS 1 (intense red/white) – AFAFAFAF, On 5, Off 1, FF0000 and FFFFFF.
  • Fire/EMS 2 – AAAAAAAA, On 5, Off 9, colours 0000FF and FF0000. The guide describes it as red/white, but the colours it lists are blue and red.
  • Christmas Tree (just for fun) – FFFFFFFF, On 50, Off 1, four colours: red, white, green and white.

(The guide’s example titles are US-style, and the “strobe” is misspelled “stobe” in places; the settings themselves are what matter.)
