TRX-2E SD Card, EZ Scan Software & Updates

Summary: Looking after the TRX-2E’s SD card, installing the EZ Scan PC software and updating the firmware.

The SD Card

The card holds the EZ Scan software, your programming and any recordings. Make a copy of the EZ Scan software files in case the card is lost or damaged.

Removing and refitting the card: always turn the scanner off with the front panel power button (otherwise data can be corrupted). Turn it off, remove the remote control head to reach the SD card slot, then press and release the card. To refit, put the label facing up and press it in until it clicks.

Card size and format:

  • Cards up to 32 GB can be used; the guide recommends SanDisk cards.
  • The card comes formatted FAT32 with 32k clusters. Cards of 2 GB or smaller should be FAT with 32k clusters; larger cards FAT32 with 32k clusters. Other file systems can make EZ Scan malfunction.
  • Format additional cards using the EZ Scan software’s Prepare Scanner Memory/SD Card For Use option in the Scanner/SD Card menu, and also if the card isn’t behaving or the scanner won’t start with it.

Folder Structure

You may want to back up the CDAT folder, which holds your EZ Scan programming. Don’t modify these folders outside the scanner or EZ Scan; it may cause malfunction and loss of data.

  • BTMP, MTMP, STMP – temporary files
  • CDAT – your programming
  • CDAT_VS.nnn – programming for V-Scanner folder nnn (001 to 200)
  • REC – audio recordings
  • SOFTWARE – the EZ Scan software
  • CURVS.DAT and CONFIG_.BIN – configuration information

Installing EZ Scan

  1. Connect the scanner to your computer’s USB port (or put the card in a card reader; a reader may transfer data faster).
  2. In Windows Explorer open the SD card, open the Software folder and run setup.exe.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions and accept all prompts.

EZ Scan lets you change programming and configuration, update firmware and format and maintain the card. For full instructions use the Help menu in the PC application.

Updating Firmware

With the scanner off and connected by USB (the computer should see the SD card as a new drive; close any auto-run window):

  • CPU firmware: choose Check for CPU Firmware Update in the update menu, click Check for Updates, then Update My Scanner. It can take several minutes.
  • DSP firmware: the same, using Check for DSP Firmware Update.

The band plans addendum is written for CPU version 7.3, and you can check your version with the Firmware Ver setting (see TRX-2E V-Scanner Storage & Global Settings).

Backing Up

Backup Data in the Set Location menu copies your PC objects to the first free V-Scanner folder. Back up before large changes. See TRX-2E V-Scanner Storage & Global Settings.
