TRX-1 Programming From the Library: Set Location & Browse Library

Summary: The two library-based ways to load channels into the TRX-1: quick Set Location programming and the more selective Preferred (Browse Library) method.

These methods use the USA/Canada RadioReference library. Elsewhere skip to TRX-1 Programming Conventional Channels & Editing Objects.

Which Method?

  • Set Location stores the objects for your area automatically and puts them in scanlists 151 and up. It gets you scanning in minutes, but all the police, or all the fire, end up in the same scanlist, so you can’t monitor a single department.
  • Preferred programming takes longer but lets you choose exactly what to import and where, so you can build scanlists such as Bethel Police or Hurst Fire.

Set Location

  1. Press MENU, scroll to Set Location and press right.
  2. Choose By City, By County or By ZIP Code.
  3. For City or County, pick your state (first letter, then the name), then your city or county in the same way. For ZIP Code, enter the five-digit code.
  4. Choose the Default Types (press right, then SEL to import the default service types) or Custom Types (tick the services you want, then import).
  5. Confirm the import and wait for it to end.

Programming only one location gives the best performance. Several locations make the scanner spend time searching for objects that are out of range, and it may miss local transmissions. Each service is given its own scanlist, named after the service and automatically selected for scanning.

Clear Channels in the Set Location menu erases all data in the current folder; all scanlists in that folder are empty. It cannot be undone, and it doesn’t affect V-Scanner folders. Use it before storing a new location.

Preferred Programming: Browse Library

  1. Main Menu, Browse Library.
  2. Select the Country, the first letter of the state/province and the state/province.
  3. Select Counties/Cities, the first letter of the county, and the county.
  4. Select a Data Type. Police, fire and emergency will be in Categories for smaller towns and Systems for larger ones.
  5. Select an agency, category or system, then a subcategory. Press right to go deeper; when the cursor jumps to the left of the screen you are at the bottom of a category. When selecting a System, tick at least one of the Sites in range, then go further in to the categories to find objects.
  6. Use SEL to tick the items to monitor (SEL unticks). When done, press MENU.
  7. Choose Import Selected, then the scanlist for the objects and press right to save. Scanlist 001 is already selected; for the next scanlist, untick it and tick the desired one, otherwise you’ll add everything to the first scanlist.
  8. Press SEL to continue to the Main Menu, choose Scanlists and rename the scanlist if you like. Repeat for more, or choose Scan.

Save your final programming from the scanner with the EZ Scan PC application, and keep track of whether the scanner or the PC has the most recent list if you use both.
