TRX-1 Understanding the Display & Icons

Summary: How to read the TRX-1 screen: the scan and object displays, the psDr indicators and the row of status icons.

Menu and Scan Displays

The scanner has a high-contrast, backlit LCD driven by menus. The Main Menu lists items such as Scan, Scanlists, Set Location, Browse Library and Browse Objects. The Scan display shows a scrolling list of the enabled scanlists while scanning, plus attenuator and trunking control-channel status.

Object Displays

When the scanner is monitoring an enabled object, an individual object display appears with a row of icons across the top. How much is shown depends on the Simple Display setting in Global Settings:

  • Simple Display on: icons, scanlist, object type and psDr status, the trunking system and the object name/talkgroup.
  • Simple Display off: extra data as well, which you can choose with the Show options (for example Show Radio ID, Show TGID, Show VC/CC, Show Site Name, CONV TGID and CONV Radio ID). See TRX-1 V-Scanner Storage & Global Settings.

To display and save found CTCSS, DCS or NAC codes, Simple Display must be unchecked.

The psDr Indicators

Four characters on the right of an object display show priority, skip/lockout, delay and recording status:

  • p priority off, P priority on
  • s skip off, S skip on, L locked out
  • d delay off, D delay on
  • r recording off, R recording on

Display Icons

  • S – squelch open (a second form is shown for DMR)
  • G – attenuator in Global mode. A – attenuator active. GA – Global attenuator on and active
  • AM, FM, NF – AM, FM and narrow FM modes
  • DG – receiving P25/DMR digital audio with AGC. Dg – P25 digital audio without AGC. D2 – P25 Phase II digital audio, with or without AGC
  • Fn – function key active
  • Scan and Pause icons – scanning or monitoring a single object
  • Recording icon – the active or selected object is being recorded. With an F it means recording is enabled but suspended because the SD card is almost full
  • Signal meter – signal strength
  • T – receiving trunking control-channel data
  • E – encrypted digital traffic detected
  • IF – IF (discriminator) output mode is active
  • P/p, S/s, D/d, L/- – as above
  • Battery status indicator, and an icon for external power connected
