SDS200E Programming Systems, Sites, Departments & Channels

Summary: How to create and edit systems, sites, departments and channels on the SDS200E, with the system-type codes the manual uses.

System-Type Codes

The manual tags each option with the system types it applies to: P – APCO Project 25; M – Motorola; D – DMR; N – NXDN; E – EDACS; L – LTR; C – Conventional.

Creating a System

  1. Menu, Manage Favorites, choose the list, then Review/Edit System.
  2. Choose New System, then a type: P25 Trunk, P25 X2-TDMA, P25 One Frequency, Motorola, MotoTRBO Trunk, DMR One Frequency, EDACS, LTR or Conventional.
  3. At Confirm? press E/yes.

System Settings

  • Edit Name, Copy System (copies sites, departments, channels and settings, including quick keys, into the current list) and Delete System.
  • Edit Unit ID (P, M, D, E) – unit IDs show only when Unit ID display is on. For each: name, ID, alert tone (Alert 1-9 or Off), level (1-15 or Auto), light colour (Off, Blue, Red, Magenta, Green, Cyan, Yellow, White) and pattern (On, Slow Blink, Fast Blink).

Edit Sys Option

  • Set System Quick Key and Set System Number Tag (all types), Set Avoid, Set Hold Time (default 0 scans the whole system once and moves on).
  • ID Search – ID Search stops on all unavoided channels; ID Scan only on programmed ones (not for conventional).
  • Edit Fleet Map (Motorola), Priority ID Scan (P, M, D, N, E, L), Set Status Bit (Motorola; default ignore), Set End Code (Motorola; default not ignored).
  • Emergency Alert (M, D, N, E) – alert sound and indicator on an emergency status.
  • Set TGID Format (NXDN).
  • Review ID Avoids and Clear all ID Avoids.
  • Digital Waiting Time (conventional) – how long the scanner monitors a channel for digital signals before opening squelch; default 400 ms.

Edit Site

For trunked systems (P, M, D, N, E, L): Edit Name, Set Site Quick Key, Edit Band Plan (Motorola), Set Site Type (EDACS Wide or Narrow), Set Frequencies (with the LCN for system types that need one), Set Modulation (not P25), Set Attenuator, Set Filter (choose an RF filter suited to the environment), Set Avoid, Set Location Information (a circle, or one or more rectangles), Delete Site and New Site.

Edit Department

Edit Name, Set Department Quick Key, Edit Channel, Set Filter (conventional; an RF filter for the environment), Set Location Information (circle or rectangles), Set Avoid, Delete Department, New Department.

Channel Options

After you enter the TGID (trunked) or frequency (conventional):

  • Set Name
  • Edit TGID (trunked) or Edit Frequency (conventional)
  • Set TDMA Slot (DMR)
  • Set Audio Type (Motorola and conventional) – analogue or digital
  • Set Channel Number Tag
  • Set Modulation and Set Attenuation (conventional)
  • Set Service Type
  • Set Delay Time – default 2 seconds
  • Set Priority, Set Alert, Set Avoid, Volume Offset
  • Delete Channel, New Channel

Tips

  • Choose the system type carefully: a system whose type includes “Motorola” should be programmed as Motorola even if some channels are digital.
