SDS200E Customising the Display

Summary: How to choose the information shown on the SDS200E’s display and the colours used for each field.

What You Can Customise

The SDS200E lets you choose which items appear in each field of the display and the text and background colour of each. Go to Menu, Display Options, Customize and choose the display to edit:

  • Set Simple Conventional
  • Set Simple Trunk
  • Set Detail Conventional
  • Set Detail Trunk
  • Set Search/CC Mode
  • Set Weather Mode (USA/Canada only)
  • Set Tone Out Mode (USA/Canada only)

Notes:

  • While scanning, hold on a channel and press Func then DISP (9) to switch between Simple and Detail display modes.
  • In most modes, Func then hold DISP for 3 seconds switches between colour, black on white and white on black. Black-and-white modes give better visibility in direct sunlight.
  • Some display modes or fields only let you change the colours.
  • Trunking and conventional modes share field colours, but each can show different data items.
  • Not every item fits every field.
  • Search/Close Call, Weather and Tone-Out modes each have their own colours but share one layout; display items can only be set for Search mode.

How to Edit a Field

After you choose the display, the scanner shows a sample. Rotate the scroll control to highlight the area you want to change, then press a soft key:

  • Item – change what the field shows.
  • T-Color – change the text colour.
  • B-Color – change the background colour.

Pick an option and press E to return to the sample. In the manual’s layout diagrams, the darker-shaded areas only allow a colour change. The Simple layout has System, Department and Channel name lines (30 characters x 2), ten icon positions, signal, key, battery and direction indicators and eight option fields; the Detail layout adds info areas and extra option fields.

Available Items

Depending on the field size (Huge 22, Large 16/14 or Short 5-character), the items include:

  • Favorites List name, site name, unit ID name, frequency, TGID
  • RSSI (voltage) and an RSSI graph, digital error count, noise
  • System type, system/network ID, site ID, unit ID, LCN, RFSS ID, WACN
  • Number tag (FF-SS-CC), volume and squelch, service type
  • CTCSS/DCS/NAC, latitude and longitude
  • USB1 and USB2 vbus voltage
  • Attenuator (ATT / G-ATT), P25 status, date, time, modulation, TDMA slot

The icon area can show: PRI (priority scan), CC (Close Call), WX PRI, REC, IFX, GPS, SCR (broadcast screen), REF (Repeater Find), V+x (volume offset), modulation and P-Ch (a priority channel).

Useful Tricks

  • Assign a display area to show the Quick Key status (FQK/SQK/DQK).
  • Show the RSSI graph and digital error count in a Detail display when positioning an antenna.
  • Show the USB vbus voltages to check the power arriving on the USB ports.
