SDS200E Controls, Keys & Indicators

Summary: What each key and knob on the SDS200E does, including the PUSH/FUNC knob and the soft keys.

In this section of the KB, Func means pressing the PUSH/FUNC knob and then the next key.

Indicators

A single LED above the PUSH/FUNC knob shows channel alerts.

Main Controls

  • Scroll knob / PUSH FUNC – rotate to change menu items, scan direction, or to resume scanning or searching when stopped on a transmission; in channel or search hold mode rotate to change channel or frequency. Press to give the next key its second function.
  • VOLUME / LIGHT / POWER – rotate right to turn on and raise the volume; rotate left to lower the volume and turn off. Tap to turn the display backlight on and off (with the backlight off nothing is visible).
  • SQUELCH / MENU – rotate right to raise the squelch threshold, left to lower it. Press to enter Menu mode and to go back one level (the menu reference says press and hold to open the menu). Func then Menu opens the Search menu in Search mode and the Close Call menu in Close Call mode.
  • AVOID – press once to temporarily avoid the current channel or frequency (direct tune mode), twice for a permanent avoid. During scan or scan hold, press the left soft key (System) then Avoid once or twice to avoid the current system; press the middle soft key (Department) then Avoid to avoid the current department.
  • ZIP/SERVICES – Func then Zip/Services selects service types to scan.
  • Soft keys – three keys that change with the mode; labels show at the bottom of the display. In scan modes: System (1), Dept (2) and Channel (3).
  • REPLAY/RECORD – Replay; Func then Replay/Record starts or stops recording; press and hold to review recordings.

Number Keys

  • Select Favorites List quick keys in Scan mode; direct entry in Hold; toggle custom search bands in Custom Search; keys 0-6 toggle Close Call bands in Close Call.
  • 1 / SRCH1, 2 / SRCH2, 3 / SRCH3 – in channel hold, Func then 1, 2 or 3 toggles the search assigned to that key.
  • 4 / ATT – Func then 4 toggles attenuation for the channel; Func then hold 4 for 3 seconds toggles global attenuation. In Search, holding on a frequency, Func then 4 toggles attenuation for it.
  • 5 / DIM – Func then 5 sets the display brightness.
  • 6 / WX – Func then 6 toggles weather priority; Func then hold 6 for 3 seconds goes to weather channel monitoring.
  • 7 / IFX – Func then 7 toggles IF exchange for the channel (or the frequency being held in Search).
  • 8 / REV – Func then 8 monitors the repeater input frequency.
  • 9 / DISP – Func then 9 toggles between simple and detailed display modes. In most modes, Func then hold 9 for 3 seconds switches between Color, Black on White and White on Black.
  • 0 / LVL – Func then repeatedly 0 sets the volume offset for the channel.
  • .NO/PRI – decimal point; selects No; Func then .NO/PRI toggles conventional priority scan.
  • E/YES/Q.SRCH – selects or saves; in channel hold stores a blinking CTCSS/DCS/NAC; Func then E/YES starts a Quick Search, or toggles ID Search on and off in Scan mode (trunked system in a Favorites List only).

Holding

While scanning, hold with the soft keys: System hold – soft key 1; Department hold – soft key 2; Site hold – Func + soft key 2; Channel hold – soft key 3. If you hold on a channel in a trunked system, all enabled sites are still scanned for activity on that channel.

Quick Tuning

  • Quick frequency tuning: hold on any channel, key in a frequency and press CHANNEL (soft key 3). This enters Quick Search mode.
  • Quick talk group tuning: while scanning a trunked system, hold on any channel, key in the talk group ID and press CHANNEL.
