Summary: What every key and knob on the BCD260DN’s front and rear panels does.

How the Controls Work

Each key or knob can do different things depending on how you use it (press, press and hold, turn) and the mode you’re in. The FUNC knob (the Scroll knob when pressed) gives the number keys second functions.

Front Panel

• SQ (Squelch) knob – turn to adjust the squelch; press to go to Tone-Out mode.
• SVC (Service) – the Select Service menu appears; choose a service and press E Yes.
• PRI (Priority) – turns Priority mode on and off; cycles the modes in Scan.
• WX (Weather) – toggles Weather Alert Priority; press for about 3 seconds for Weather Scan.
• Keypad – numbers; 4 and 6 move the cursor left and right when editing text. After pressing the FUNC knob: 1, 2, 3 are the search keys SRCH 1, 2, 3; 4 (IFX) IF Exchange; 5 (LVL) volume offset; 7 (ATT) attenuation; 9 (MOD) modulation. . No enters a decimal point, deletes values, errors and warnings, and selects “No”. E Yes selects, accepts or saves an entry and selects “Yes”.
• Scroll/FUNC knob – turn it to change scan/search direction and continue scanning or searching; to scroll channels or frequencies in Hold; to scroll menus; to choose Tone-Outs in Tone-Out Standby; and to choose characters when editing text. Press it to activate Function mode (3 seconds; press and hold to lock it, press again to release) and to save a menu item, character, bank or channel.
• SCAN/SEARCH – start or pause scanning or searching. FUNC knob then SCAN/SEARCH starts a Quick Search (and toggles Max Hold in Band Scope).
• HOLD/RESUME – hold on a channel or frequency in any mode; press again to release.
• Headphone jack – 3.5 mm (audio is mono).
• USB port – 5-pin mini USB B.
• L/O (Lockout) – lock out the channel being monitored. Toggles Temporary, Permanent, Unlock, and round again.
• MENU – enter the menu; return to the previous menu. FUNC knob then MENU goes to the Edit menu for the current system in Scan mode, to Search for… in Search mode, to the WX Operation menu in any Weather mode, and to Tone-Out for… in Tone-Out mode.
• VOL knob – turn to power on and adjust volume (shown top right); press to change the backlight level.
• LEDs – RX lights blue when a transmission is received (if Set RX LED is on); ALERT lights red when an alert is received.

Rear Panel

Antenna jack (BNC), REC output, external speaker jack, DC 13.8V power jack, the external DC power/dim control jack for vehicle installation, and an accessory screw hole (maximum depth 10 mm). See BCD260DN Installing, Powering & Turning On.

Bank Keys

While scanning, number keys 1-9 and 0 turn banks 1-9 and 10 (shown as bank 0) on and off. The same keys switch service banks and custom search banks in those modes. At least one bank must stay on.

Choosing an Item

You can select the highlighted item either with E Yes or by pressing the FUNC knob.
