How can we help?

BCD436HP/536HP Discovery Mode

Summary: How Trunking Discovery and Conventional Discovery find, log and record unknown channels.

What Discovery Does

  • Trunking Discovery monitors a trunked system, logging channel activity and recording audio for the channels.
  • Conventional Discovery monitors a range of frequencies, logging active ones and recording audio for frequencies not already known in your area, including those used conventionally and in trunked systems.
  • You can compare hits with the database and log all hits or only new ones.
  • Auto Store creates a new Trunking System (for IDs found) or a new Conventional System (for frequencies found) for each session.
  • Every time you start a session you create a Run, which you can review on the scanner or in Sentinel.

New Session

Menu, Discovery, choose Trunking Discovery or Conventional Discovery, then New Session. Conventional: enter a session name. Trunking: enter the first few letters of the system (the system must be enabled for scan), select the system and site, and enter a session name.

Session Options

  • Start Discovery – press Menu to stop and review the Run; Avoid avoids a hit; Func + System exits.
  • Edit Session Name
  • Set Limit Frequencies, Set Modulation, Set Step (conventional only)
  • Set Delay – 0-5 seconds
  • Set Logging – All or New Only
  • Set Compare to Database – On records audio only for new channels (if enabled); Off treats every hit as new.
  • Set Record Duration – None, 30, 60, 90, 120, 150, 180, 300 or 600 seconds.
  • Set Time-Out Timer – Off, 10, 30 or 60 seconds, to stop a stuck channel taking over a run.
  • System Information (trunking) – where the system came from, its type and the system used.
  • Set Auto Store – creates a Conventional or Trunking Discovery system.
  • Delete Session, Change System (trunking).

Review Discovery

Menu, Discovery, Review Discovery, choose the results type and select a run: Review Run Results (Summary by frequency or Detail by hit), Restart this Run (deletes the log files), Resume this Run (keeps them), Delete, Rename, Run Information.
