BCD436HP/536HP Programming Departments, Channels & Quick-Storing

Summary: How to create departments and channels, quickly store a frequency or talkgroup, and what each channel option does.

Departments

Menu, Manage Favorites, the list, Review/Edit System, the system, Edit Department, then New Department or select one.

  • Edit Name
  • Set Department Quick Key – 0-99 or none. With none, the department is always scanned unless avoided.
  • Edit Channel
  • Set Location Information – circle (range 0-6000) or rectangles, as for sites.
  • Set Avoid and Delete Department, New Department.

Quickly Storing a Frequency or TGID

1. In Scan mode, press Channel to hold on any channel. You can also save the frequency or TGID currently shown by pressing E/yes. 2. Enter the frequency or TGID in the right format for the system you’re holding on, and press E/yes. (You can’t enter a Motorola Type II TGID while holding on an LTR system.) Quick Save is not allowed for I-Call IDs. 3. At Quick Freq/TGID Save?: – E/yes saves to the Quick Save Favorites List / Quick Save System / Quick Save Department (no quick keys assigned). – At Quick TGID Save? (for a TGID), E/yes saves to a Quick Save Department in the current system. – ./no, then E/yes at the next prompt, lets you choose the list (or create a new one), system and department. 4. You then reach Channel Options to finish the settings. Press Avoid to skip.

Creating a Channel

Menu, Manage Favorites, the list, Review/Edit System, the system, Edit Department, the department, Edit Channel, New Channel, and enter the frequency or TGID. If it already exists you’re asked Frequency Exists Accept? (Y/N).

Channel Options

  • Edit Name; Edit Frequency or TGID (see BCD436HP/536HP Entering IDs & Status Bits).
  • Set Audio Type (Conventional and Motorola) – All, Digital Only (P25; with P25 NAC options) or Analog Only. Choose Analog Only when sure, so the P25 Waiting Time doesn’t clip the start of transmissions.
  • Set CTCSS/DCS (conventional) – Search, a specific CTCSS or DCS tone, or Set Lockout to avoid a tone. You can store a blinking tone with E/yes.
  • Set Channel Number Tag – 0-999 or blank.
  • Set Modulation (conventional) – Auto (default), AM, FM, NFM, WFM or FMB.
  • Set Attenuator (conventional) – about 20 dB, default Off.
  • Set Service Type – default Custom 1.
  • Set Delay Time – -10, -5, 0, 1, 2 (default), 3, 4, 5, 10 or 30 seconds; negative forces a resume.
  • Set Priority – default Off. For Priority ID Scan, also enable it on the system.
  • Set Alert – tone, level, light colour and pattern; default Off.
  • Set Avoid and Volume Offset (-3 to +3).
  • Delete Channel, New Channel.
