UBCD3600XLT Overview, Features & Specifications

Summary: A tour of what the Uniden UBCD3600XLT handheld scanner can do, what’s in the box, and its key hardware specifications.

What the UBCD3600XLT Is

The UBCD3600XLT is a handheld digital scanner using TrunkTracker V. It scans APCO P25 Phase 1 and Phase 2, DMR, Motorola, EDACS (including ProVoice) and LTR trunked systems, as well as conventional analogue and P25 digital channels. It belongs to the same family as the SDS100 and SDS200, and uses the same memory structure and the same Sentinel software.

Uniden designed it so that in North America it can work with almost no programming: you enter your location and the scanner picks nearby systems from the built-in RadioReference database. That database is for North America only. If you’re outside North America, the built-in database isn’t useful, so you’ll build your own Favorites Lists instead – by hand, with Sentinel, or using UKAFG’s tools (see UBCD3600XLT Loading Frequencies From Squawker PC & Squawker Online).

What’s in the Box

  • USB connection cable

  • Instant Replay of up to 240 seconds (4 minutes), and audio recording to the microSD card.
  • Custom Alerts for a channel or unit ID, a Close Call hit, an emergency flag, or a tone-out hit, with 9 tone patterns, 15 volume levels, 7 LED colours and flash patterns.
  • Trunking Discovery and Conventional Discovery – monitor traffic to find unknown IDs or frequencies and automatically record and log them.
  • Scan by Service Type (Fire, Police, Railroad, and so on).
  • Close Call RF Capture, with a Do-Not-Disturb option.
  • Broadcast Screen – ignore hits from common broadcast and pager sources, plus up to 10 custom ranges.
  • Fire Tone-Out Standby and Tone Search – up to 32 tone-out channels.
  • Priority and Priority DND scanning, and Priority ID Scan for talkgroups.
  • Intermediate Frequency Exchange (IFX) to avoid image and mixer interference on a frequency.
  • Individual channel volume offset, analogue and digital AGC.
  • Configurable band defaults – step and modulation for 31 bands.
  • Data naming of lists, systems, sites, departments, channels, IDs, locations and searches, with up to 64 characters.
  • 100 Quick Keys for lists, systems and departments; Startup Keys; Number Tags.

Safety and Compliance Notes

  • Earphones: use only a 32-ohm stereo headset or earphone. The output is mono but you hear it in both ears. Set a comfortable volume from the speaker before plugging in earphones.
  • Liquids: the scanner isn’t waterproof. Keep it away from rain and moisture.
  • Power: always switch the scanner off before disconnecting external power, because some settings are saved only as it powers down.
  • Modifications: changes not approved by Uniden, or operating it other than as the manual describes, could void your authority to operate it.
  • EU declaration: the manual includes a simplified EU Declaration of Conformity for the UBCD3600XLT under Directive 2014/53/EU, imported by Avera-Distribution in the Netherlands.
  • Patent notice: the AMBE+2 voice coding technology in the scanner is protected by intellectual property rights of Digital Voice Systems, Inc.
