Aviation VHF/UHF Database – Search Options

Aviation VHF/UHF has the richest set of search options of any dataset, combining the Select Panel toolbar with two extra controls in Range Search that only appear for this dataset.

Bands

Narrow results to Civil & Mil, Civil, or Military only.

Exclude ATIS

ATIS (Automatic Terminal Information Service) is a continuously looping recorded broadcast — airport weather, runway in use, and similar information, repeated on a fixed cycle rather than live conversation. You might want to exclude it because:

  • It isn’t “activity” in the sense of live ATC traffic — it’s the same recording playing on repeat.
  • If you’re building a list to scan with a physical radio, an ATIS frequency will sit there looping and can hold your scanner’s attention while it waits for a pause, rather than moving on to catch something live elsewhere.

Exclude Havequick

Havequick is a military anti-jam system where transmissions continuously hop across a pre-set pattern of frequencies rather than staying on one. A conventional scanner or receiver — including anything programmed from a Squawker PC export — can’t decode a hopping transmission; without the matching hop pattern and sync, all you’ll hear is a burst noise, not intelligible audio. Excluding Havequick keeps these channels out of your results and exports, since they won’t produce anything useful on standard equipment.

Select Class…

This is a two-step picker, not a flat list:

  1. First, choose a Class — the main categories are Airport, Airbase, Airfield, and Heliport (plus an ATC bucket for records that don’t belong to a specific site).
  2. Then, choose one or more specific User (site/service) values within that class.

This lets you narrow down from “just airports” or “just airbases” before picking specific sites, rather than searching the full list of names directly.

Include ATC (Range Search panel)

When doing a location-based search, tick Include ATC to fold in nearby air traffic control facility data (from a separate ATC dataset) alongside your local airport/airfield results — covering area/approach control frequencies that aren’t tied to a single airport, within your search range plus a bit extra to catch neighbouring sectors.

Include National Freqs (Range Search panel)

Also in Range Search, Include National Freqs opens a picker of national frequency categories — Civil Common, Low Level, Mil Common, and Nato Common, among others — to add alongside your location results. These are UK-wide category groupings, not countries; it’s the same idea as the National tab on the website’s Squawker Search, just presented as an add-on to a location search here rather than a separate tab.

All of these can be combined — for example, a location search with Include ATC and Include National Freqs ticked, Military band only, ATIS excluded, and a specific Class selected, all at once.
