How can we help?

Automatic Dataset Updates

Separately from updating the program itself, Squawker PC keeps its underlying data current automatically every time you launch it — this is what’s meant when the website says an update “is applied when you launch the program” (see Checking Database Update Status).

What Gets Updated

Several datasets are kept in sync, split into two groups:

  • Essential — Aviation Data, Location Data, and Common Frequencies. These load first since the app needs them to function.
  • Optional — Multisite, Squawk Codes, Military Callsigns, Business Radio (WTR) Data, and Amateur Repeaters. These continue loading in the background after the app is already usable.

What You’ll See

  • First launch, or right after a program update — since your local data has been cleared, you’ll see a splash screen showing “Downloading datasets…” with progress, before the main window appears. This can take a few minutes depending on your connection.
  • Normal subsequent launches — the essential datasets load quickly, the main window appears, and the optional datasets keep updating quietly in the background — you generally won’t notice this happening at all.

There’s nothing to trigger manually — just open the app and it stays current on its own.
